Since the launch of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) at Mercy Medical Center, the Advanced Center for Wound Care has seen a steady growth in its use by Siouxland residents. Patients who are dealing with serious non-healing wounds have found HBOT to be a welcome addition to their treatment regimen.

Dr. Paul Johnson, medical director for the Mercy Wound Care Center, says the availability of hyperbaric oxygen therapy is great news for those who have a variety of health issues. Click here to read the entire story "Mercy sees increasing demand for wound treatment"

Featuring the DRX9000 Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression System:

Spinal decompression therapy; State of the art non-surgical care for herniated discs, sciatica and low back pain is now available in Toronto at the Affinity Health Clinic. The DRX9000 Spinal Decompression System is ideal for those seeking aggressive non-surgical rehabilitation as an alternative to risky surgical spinal decompression.

At the Affinity Health Clinic in Toronto the DRX9000 Non-surgical Spinal Decompression System is used to provide an effective non-surgical treatment alternative for chronic low back pain.

The DRX9000 Non-surgical Spinal Decompression System is designed to provide pain relief for compressive and degenerative injuries of the spine. Through the direct application of spinal decompressive forces to these injured tissues, the DRX9000 Non-surgical Spinal Decompression System provides relief of pain and symptoms associated with herniated discs, bulging or protruding intervertebral discs, degenerative disease of the disc, facet syndrome, and sciatica.

Spinal decompression on the DRX9000 involves application of forces to the spine without causing the muscles that guard the spine to contract. The technology required to apply spinal decompressive forces is very advanced.

At the Affinity Health Clinic in Toronto we recognize and appreciate that a proper diagnosis is required to best assess whether a patient is a candidate for this type of therapy.  Experience has taught us that simply decompressing the spine is not enough.  Our non-surgical approach to treating herniated disc pain is integrated with intensive neuromuscular and structural rehabilitation to address your problem at its root and treat the cause of your symptoms. Additional services may be used in conjunction with the DRX9000 Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression System. Click here to fill out our on-line questionnaire to see if you are a candidate for treatment using the DRX9000 Non-surgical Spinal Decompression System at the Affinity Health Clinic in Toronto.

It is estimated that non-specific low back pain will affect approximately 80% of the population during a life span. There are many risk factors associated with the development of low back pain, but the single best predictor of a future episode of low back pain is a previous episode of low back pain. This is why a proper treatment regimen is so important. Research has demonstrated that this prevalence rate can be reduced if patients are treated according to their specific pathology and incorporate a rehabilitation program aimed at addressing the source of the dysfunction, i.e. strengthening a weakness in the core musculature.

An acute episode of low back pain is one of the most common entities that present to manual therapists in a rehabilitation setting. It can be very disabling for the patient, and equally frustrating for the therapist, due to the fact that there is very little that can be done from a “hands on” perspective to alleviate pain or increase range of motion in the early stages.

Traction therapy is one of the oldest known treatments for low back pain and has become very popular recently with the advent of nonsurgical decompression machines. Manufacturers of these machines have boasted successful outcomes with such treatments for patients suffering from acute and chronic low back pain. But, how do clinicians know which patients will best respond to decompression when there are so many different causes of low back pain?
