Is your Treadmill killing you?
Written by Mark McKoy
Quite frankly the answer is yes! Some people might find this a strange statement.
Well, if you think about it logically it might not seem that strange at all.
Ever wonder why obesity is increasing year after year? Why the increase of disease, heart attack, stroke, diabetes, etc.? Again, if we take a step back and see what has been going day.
Sure, we eat too much, we eat the wrong foods, we are getting more and more sedentary, etc, etc. But I find that when we do have the opportunity to do something, we are steered in the wrong direction by what’s being advertised on the radio, television and magazines. Once we realize that there is no quick fix or magic pill, we are half way there.
The treadmill was developed about a century ago for animals, and they should have let them continue to use them and not let us believe that we are as foolish as animals to use them for human use. They serve absolutely no purpose other to make the lazy lazier and to cause injury.
Stop blaming the universe and take responsibility. The best thing you can do for yourself is to get off the treadmill and do some real exercise.
Let’s take a quick look at heart health. To most people that means cardio. What is cardio? Cardio is raising your heart rate. That’s it! It’s not treadmills. It’s not elipticals or stair masters. It’s not monotonous mind boring continuous walking for 30-60 minutes to reach your optimal fat burning zone. It’s simply means raising your heart rate.
Is there a way out?
Sure. Rather than blindly following the crazy fads, quick fixes and marketing machines, let’s get back to basics. Let’s start to use our bodies instead of machines and devices. Let’s stop making excuses. Let’s begin and start today and not wait until tomorrow, because we all know tomorrow never comes. Working out is not rocket science. Start by doing some simple exercises for 10 – 20 minutes a day. Planks, push-ups, sit-ups, squats, etc., you will be surprised at the results.
Saying of the day, “Common sense is a common thing that common people no longer have”. Let’s begin and start to take 20 minutes a day for yourself because you deserve it!
